These are the Top 15 Employers for Physician Assistants in the U.S.

Physician assistants comprise one of the fastest growing professions in the U.S., and more healthcare facilities are recognizing the ways PAs increase access and quality of healthcare. To honor the hospitals and other medical facilities leading this initiative, the American Association of Physician Assistants launched a program to call attention to the top employers for PAs.

At the AAPA’s annual conference in Denver earlier this week, the professional group announced its 2019 to 2020 Employers of Excellence, the only award given by PAs to organizations. Here’s the final list, with links to their job boards:

Activate Healthcare, based in the Midwest, works with organizations to set up and manage primary care clinics as a benefit for their employees and their families.

Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, part of nonprofit hospital system Banner Health, is know for its cancer treatment and research and based in Gilbert, Arizona.

Baylor Scott and White Health, the largest nonprofit​ healthcare system in Texas, runs 48 hospitals and more than 800 patient care sites.

Geisinger serves more than 3 million patients in 45 counties as a regional care provider for central, south-central and northeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.

Lynn Community Health Center in Lynn, Massachusetts, is a multicultural, community-focused facility and a recognized leader in developing new initiatives that result in high-impact, low-cost care.

Madison Emergency Physicians is a private practice group of 58 physicians and 27 physician assistants specializing in Emergency Medicine in Madison, Wisconsin.

Mayo Clinic is a nonprofit academic medical center focused on integrated clinical practice, education and research with major campuses in Rochester, Minnesota, Scottsdale and Phoenix, Arizona, and Jacksonville, Florida, as well as dozens of locations in other states.

MedStar Emergency Physicians provides top-tier emergency services at seven hospitals throughout the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Maryland areas.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the largest and oldest private cancer center in the world, provides cancer research and treatment in New York City.

Penn Medicine Lancaster General is a nonprofit health system that includes Lancaster General Hospital, Women & Babies Hospital and the Lancaster Rehabilitation Hospital in Pennsylvania.

Rush University Medical Center is an academic health system in Chicago that comprises Rush University Medical Center, Rush University, Rush Copley Medical Center and Rush Oak Park Hospital, and numerous outpatient facilities.

Stanford Health Care in northern California is an academic medical center that both researches and provides cutting-edge treatments for cancer, heart disease, brain disorders, primary care issues and more.

Vidant Medical Center is a nonprofit, eight-hospital system that serves more than 1.4 million people in 29 eastern North Carolina counties.

Vituity is one of the leading healthcare practice management organizations in the U.S. and works primarily within acute care specialties at more than 250 practice sites across the county.

University of Colorado School of Medicine is the medical school of the University of Colorado system located in Aurora, Colorado.

“Today, an increasing number of PAs are practicing to the top of their education, training, and experience thanks in large part to the efforts of forward-looking employers such as this year’s awardees,” said Jonathan E. Sobel, president and chair of the AAPA Board of Directors, in a statement.

The AAPA narrowed down its list of applicants for the award based on several qualities that PAs prize in work environments, namely: how well the work environment supports PAs; how often PAs are informed of and able to lead organizational change, especially improving quality of care; and processes for effective conflict management.

Last year’s inaugural winners were: Brigham and Women’s Hospital, The Cleveland Clinic, El Centro Family Health, Hospital for Special Surgery, MidMichigan Health, NYU Langone Health, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and Wake Forest Baptist Health.
